The next big event is scheduled for Dec 15th when they will be setting the bridge girders, which will be trucked up from Antioch, California. The black pads being carefully attached to the abutment with special glue will be the cushioning between the girders and tops of the abutments.

The I-beams, which were installed to shore up the soil for the project, are being cut down by 5 feet before adding the back fill. The I-beams would cause issues with the asphalt roadbed over time if left at full length.
