I went up to the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park today to see if my friend was on the ever decreasing pond hunting for a meal. Thought that maybe it would be an easy catch for the Egret in the shallow waters. And it was my doubly lucky day. The Egret was on the pond and I was able to document a successful catch. Wasn’t sure what it was. It looked like a small catfish but I’m not sure there are any here in the valley. It was interesting to watch it prepare the meal. Smashing it to the ground to knock it out and then smothering it in the mud. It continued to toss it to the ground for another 10 minutes, until it was lifeless before swallowing it whole.
